1966 Fiat 1100 r wagon
I am not cute.
I am purposefully statuesque.
A worker
Sprung and geared to haul.
The most space in the smallest space.
Compact, and proud of it.
‘Four persons plus dog’
that’s my motto
Luggage on the roof and boot.
I struggle and strain at times
burdened with my tasks,
but I make it and I make do , and I don’t complain about it.
I resent your labels
I am not diminutive, sweet, lovable or adorable.
I am saucey and boxy
I move what needs to be moved,
go where needs to be gone.
Thrift and economy are always on my mind.

If you want to be pampered and stroked,
be seen as a mover and shaker,
or an elitist playboy with flash and dash,
you’ve got the wrong car.
Buddy.
I am not cute
I am purposefully statuesque.
I am a Fiat 1100 R wagon.
Well I guess I’m a little bit cute.
but only sometimes
on my days off.
about
R stands for Rinovato in Italian. According to the sales brochure this “renovated” 1100 is the most advanced 1100 ever produced. It has features never before seen in an 1100: front disc brakes, 13 inch wheels (sport mode), a side draft carburetor and well, that’s about it! Too bad they were only made for 1.5 years as they really are nice to drive.
This little car was scheduled to be sent to the crusher back in the 90’s. He has lived its life in California and somehow found his way to the east coat and was subsequently abandoned at a mechanics shop and declared dead. Kids had been jumping on the roof and caved it in and the engine was siezed. I rescued the car and have been nursing it back to life since then.
“Bluebird”, as my mom calls it, is slated for a repaint back to the original color —Chiaro blau— Ash blue. If you are wondering, the front foglights came off an Alfa Romeo 2600 Sprint I used to own.
