This Austin Healey 3000 is a 1962 model year and was the only year with the tricarb engine. This year represents the final iteration and development of the timeless classic early body style. It has been fully restored and is in excellent condition ready to drive.

The frame up, nut and bolt restoration included rebuilding or renewing every part of the car with new parts including: the engine, transmission, overdrive, suspension, frame, brakes and interior. The body was stripped to bare metal and painted with Glasurit basecoat clearcoat paint. The frame received new main floors, trunk floor and outer sills, but retains its original inner sills. The focus of the restoration was to return the car to its original specifications. Only a few deviations from original have been made and these are reversable: notably the vacumm power clutch and the lack of front bumper. Much of the original chrome was replated with a few pieces being new. (replated chrome generally lasts longer than new chrome). The windshield frame was not replated and wears its original chrome with some flaws. The car drives perfectly and is perhaps one of the best examples I have driven and I have driven many. It has seen only about 500 miles since completion.

The engine reves freely, the suspension is tight and responsive, the brakes are strong, and the steering is smooth. Keep in mind that some of the “new” parts were installed in the 90’s even though they have only seen few miles. This car has been driven a total of approximately 500 miles since completion and it is well sorted and everything is in working condition with the exception of the windscreen washer (the bottle and pump was not installed) and the heater blower motor recently became weak and stopped working. The tires have virtually no wear and seem to perform well (see the driving video), but they are two decades old and the new owner may want to replace them.

Cosmetic flaws are a tear in the drivers door panel which has been reglued, the rear cockpit rails do not align perfectly at the center (one new, one original), there is a scratch on one of the rear fenders low down on the car which has been touched up.

The top and tonneau are new. The interior is red leather with wilton wool carpets. There are no side curtains (most people do not use them). The front bumper has been rechromed but is not installed because I like the look of the car without it. The rechromed front bumper, mounting irons and splash apron are included.

Why am I selling?

Five years ago I injured my back just as the restoration was being completed and I was unable to drive the car. An attempted remedy was the installation of a vacuum power booster for the clutch hydraulics and a clutch pedal extension. This improved matters, but not enough. If the new owner does not want these I will remove them and return the system to original. I sincerely hope someone can enjoy this car instead of having it sit in my barn for who knows how long.

The car is currently registered and insured in my name in the state of Connecticut. Connecticut is not a title state and does not issue title for vehicles of this age and the registration serves as proof of ownership.

Fluids recently changed:

Oil : 20w50 Valvoline VR1

oil filter: Grossland

Antifreeze : supertec extened life 50/50

brake fluid : DOT3

rear axle level checked
